PaperAnimals.io takes the Paper.io territory-claiming formula and gives it a cast of cute animal skins instead of plain lines.

You move with the mouse, and every move outside your own territory leaves a trail behind your animal. Getting back inside your claimed zone locks in whatever ground the trail surrounded, turning it into permanent territory for the rest of the round. The catch is that your trail is a target the entire time it is exposed: another player crossing it ends your run instantly, no matter how much ground you were about to claim.

Because of that, short, careful loops tend to beat long, greedy ones, especially early in a round when the map is crowded and trails cross constantly. Watching where nearby players are heading matters as much as watching your own trail, since a rival cutting toward your path can end a promising run in an instant.

Claiming a small loop close to your existing territory is safer than reaching far across open ground, since a short trail spends less time exposed to a rival crossing your path. Watching for other players circling near the edge of your territory is also worth doing, since a cut along your border can undo several careful loops at once.
