Watching what pickups are near you matters as much as watching the road, since an empty-handed kart against an armed one rarely ends well.

Courses are short and full of ramps, shortcuts, and tight corners, so races stay chaotic from start to finish and rarely play out the same way twice. A few habits help once the basic driving feels comfortable: hold weapon pickups until a rival is close enough that a miss still costs them time, and take the risky shortcut only when you can see the main road is clogged with other karts.

Drifting through corners with a light tap instead of holding a hard turn keeps more speed through the exit, which matters more over a full lap than any single shortcut. Picking up a shield or speed boost right before a contested corner is usually worth more than saving it for later, since most fights for position happen right where the track narrows.
