Stock Car Hero

Stock Car Hero is oval circuit racing with a packed grid and heavy cars. Unlike open road racers, the track never opens up, so you spend the whole event within a car length of somebody, picking a lane and defending it. Finishing position pays out prize money, and prize money buys the upgrades that make the next event survivable.

How to play: arrow keys or WASD drive, up accelerates, down brakes, and left and right steer. Space is the handbrake, though on an oval you rarely want it. The cars carry real momentum, so the technique is to lift slightly before the corner, hold one steady arc through it, and get back to full throttle before the exit. Contact is not punished with a reset, but it scrubs speed and can send you into the wall, which is where places get lost.

Two things that work. Pick the high line when the pack is bunched, because the inside lane clogs first and the outside lets you carry speed past three or four cars at once. And upgrade acceleration before top speed, since on a short oval you are climbing out of a corner far more often than you are flat out on a straight. Also, do not defend early, save the blocking for the last two laps when position actually pays.
